6 furniture trends set to make their mark on 2022

Each new year brings it with new trends in furniture and homeware with manufacturers and retailers stepping up to meet consumer demand.

But what will the must-have colour schemes, designs and styles be for 2022?

1. Mid-century glamour

Expect a move away from bohemian influences and shabby chic décor towards more classic and traditional tastes. Consumers are expected to flock towards furniture and homeware items featuring marble, brass, matte gold and natural wood.

2. Bold and bright

When it comes to colours for 2022, bold is better. Blue will continue to be a popular choice for furniture and interior colour schemes but it will be joined by green, yellow and orange. For those who prefer a more neutral palette, beiges and taupes will take over from the greys, which have dominated over the last few years. When it comes to sofas and armchairs, bright accent cushions will add a burst of colour.

3. Curves and contours

Curved furniture with rounded edges became popular during the Covid-19 pandemic and consumers are expected to continue to opt for softer, more feminine interiors over angular furniture with sharp corners and edges. This means people will be swapping their square and rectangular tables for circular ones and choosing c-shaped sofas and curved chairs with plush upholstery.

4. Sustainable suppliers

Sustainability is now so much more than a buzz word and consumers are actively choosing brands which show a commitment to using natural and eco-conscious materials in their products. People are also paying increased attention to corporate sustainability policies so they are more likely to buy their furniture and homeware from companies which take an ethical and environmentally-friendly approach to sourcing materials, manufacturing, recycling and the life cycle of their products.

5. Garden Revamps

Turning the garden into an extra living space will be a key trend for 2022. Consumers will be looking for ways to create alfresco dining areas and places to relax outside in comfort. Nationwide lockdowns sparked the rise in garden kitchen and bar installations and these will continue to be popular, alongside luxury outdoor furniture and atmospheric lighting.

6. Floral Patterns

When it comes to fabrics and wallpapers, patterns featuring flora and fauna will be on trend for 2022, especially those featuring large botanical prints. Stripes will also be popular as well as twisted geometry patterns.
